Roddy Doyle’s The Snapper is being shown tomorrow in the IFI in Dublin, with a Q&A with Mr. Doyle before hand.  There’s lots to love about this film, but for me, it’s the way Colm Meaney’s Dessie, the quintessential Dublin dad - lifts himself out of the rut and routine he’s worn into when his daughter really needs him - with unexpected benefits for his marraige.  ...

Everyone's a critic
A friend in publishing asked to read the first three chapters of my book.  I half-heartedly agreed, though I had decided I would try and get to 100,000 words before I went looking for feedback.  Obviously a very, very small part of me thought  - Aha!  Maybe, just maybe, she’ll think what an amazing writer! I wrote the poem below after Linda’s birthday in March, and posted it here.  She lost her battle with breast cancer this afternoon.  She was a funny, sweet person with a massive heart.  She loved horses, her husband and motorbikes,  she was extraordinarily brave.  Forever throwing off her itchy, overpriced wig and rocking a bandana.  She fought hard for three years.
